Overview
The concepts overlap, but they answer different questions about task progress and simultaneous execution.
Concurrency means a system manages multiple tasks whose lifetimes overlap, even if one CPU core interleaves them. Parallelism means multiple tasks execute at the same instant on different cores or processors. A server can use concurrency to keep many I/O-bound requests in progress, while a CPU-bound calculation may use parallelism to reduce elapsed time. More concurrency does not guarantee more parallel speed.
